Simon Business School - A first hand review
A top 30 private US biz school, Simon is famous for its Finance Program. It's ranked in the top 10 for finance and economics. The Professors are pretty well known in the finance circles as well! In fact its so into Finance that its program is based around it. They called it the economics based approach.
One of the plus points (Depends on how u look at it ) is the very small class. There are just about 150 full time students. International students would make up 40-50% of the class, which is quite a good mix !
Yet another thing about is the fact that they do give a lot of scholarships, a lot of incoming students are offered 30% scholarships, which is merit based scholarship. Leadership skills/GMAT/GPA all are criterion for the same.
Simon has just about changed their curriculum around 2 years back giving more focus on Case Studies etc. They call it FACt - Frame, Analyze, and Communicate .
The F.A.Ct. technique for solving business problems has three key points:
* Frame the problem - Break down a large, ambiguous question into
several smaller sub-problems;
* Analyze and research the problem - Find relevant data, form and
test hypotheses, then come to a conclusion and make a
recommendation;
* Communicate the implications of your analysis - Persuade others
of the benefit of your conclusion.
They are also looking at get more ppl in the 0-3 yr experience category with an initiative called the Early Leaders Program . They do look for ppl straight out of college as well.
Once shortlisted they conduct an interview which wouldn't b taken by an Alum or an admissions officer.
Thats abt it!
